Marketing in the Pandemic World

Marketing in the pandemic world

The team at Logo Depot had hoped the pandemic would be firmly in our rear-view mirror by now, but unfortunately, it isn’t. (If you’ve been avoiding the news during the rise of the Delta variant, we’re sorry to break it to you. But, the good news is that it might be slowing. Yay!) So, as we head into yet another potential COVID-19 damaged holiday season, it seemed like a good time to look at what remains important for you and your business – and of course, how we can help you get through with marketing.

Remember: Marketing is always important

We’ve said it before, these are tough times for everyone. In order for your business to come out of this enduring pandemic in a good position, you’re going to have to spend marketing dollars.

And we understand that is difficult right now, with potentially fewer of those dollars rolling in. But, numerous studies show that businesses who spend more on marketing than their peers during recessions gain market share. This also increases profitability in the following years. It might be tempting to cut marketing, but it’s been shown that you will be shooting yourself in the foot.

Let’s put it in a historical perspective: McGraw-Hill Research study analyzed 600 companies during the 1981-1982 recession. They found that companies that maintained or increased advertising had sales increase by 256% over companies that cut their advertising. All post-WWII recessions studied by the American Business Press have found that advertising aggressively during recessions increased sales and profits in the following years.

We understand it’s a bit scary to make the investment right now, but remember this is a perfect time to get your brand in front of customers. Don’t pass it up by cutting your marketing and letting your competitors steal the spotlight. You have the opportunity to push your company in front of potential customers who might not have been potential customers before the pandemic.

Remember: Marketing and customers have changed

According to an article in the Harvard Business Review, not just marketing has changed. Before you were competing with your competitors. Now? You are competing with the last best experience your customer had.

Consumer expectations were already on the rise before Covid-19. The members of Gen Z grew up with technology seamlessly integrated into every aspect of their lives and they expect that as companies now have their personal data, they will receive anticipatory, personalized experiences across their entire customer journey.

The article also discusses how customers approach purchases or experiences. Before they would hope you have what they want. Now customers expect you to have exactly what they want.

“If the bar just keeps rising, we must aspire to new values around customer experiences — in both a B2C and B2B context. Consumers today expect that any experience will be frictionless, anticipatory, relevant, and connected. In other words, they are concerned only with getting what they want, when they want it. And they insist nothing gets in their way,” states the article Harvard Business Review. You can read the entire piece here.

Let them know you’re open

When restaurants, small businesses, and shops are closing in record numbers, make sure your storefront lets everyone know that you are open and ready for business. We love helping small businesses (and big ones, we love you, too) with signs or banners showing that they’re open and there to serve their customers. Signage is your chance to show your customers and potential customers that you’re there for them throughout the pandemic so don’t miss out on any potential customers who might not know that you’re open for business.

Don’t let them forget you

Don’t forget, their businesses and lives have been turned upside down, too. (And continue to, gee thanks, Delta.) So, advertising, business cards, or promotional products are all ways to get your name out there to anyone who might be looking for a certain business or service. If you were to decrease marketing expenses at this time you might be missing out on potential long-term customers. And you can start your search and begin planning by checking out all the catalogs we offer online: https://logodepotweb.com/promotional-products.
